Our project set out to empower rural youth and youth workers as active agents of change and to raise the quality, recognition, and impact of Youth Work in rural areas. It translated our Erasmus+ Youth Accreditation Plan into practice and contributed to the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027 (engage, connect, empower). Strategic purpose Build a stable, regular cooperation base with international partners who deliver high-quality youth work with and for youth with fewer opportunities in rural contexts. Use quality project management to host high-quality learning mobilities in São Luís (Odemira, Portugal) and strengthen cross-border cooperation benefiting the youth field locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Support the transition towards a regenerative, green and inclusive Europe, where solidarity, diversity and human rights guide rural development. Specific objectives 1. Re-Rural (Reactivate, Rejuvenate, Regenerate): Create conditions for young people to engage, learn, work and settle in rural areas, fostering positive rural narratives and community-led development. 2. Rural regenerative livelihoods: Promote the personal and professional development of rural youth and youth workers, enhancing wellbeing, mental health, employability and purpose-driven entrepreneurship connected to local, circular economies. 3. Youth Rural Work Network – Community of Practice: Connect youth workers, organisations and decision-makers to co-create strategies, share tools and good practices, and improve Youth Work in rural territories; strengthen participation in EU programmes through long-term, quality partnerships. 4. Ecological behaviours and practices: Encourage environmentally responsible behaviours and climate adaptation through experiential learning (e.g., agroecology, permaculture, water stewardship) and eco-management (local/seasonal food, zero-waste, green travel). * How the objectives respond to needs - Address rural disadvantage and youth out-migration by making rural life more attractive and viable through quality youth work and community development. - Tackle youth unemployment and psychosocial stress through competence development, continuous mentoring, peer learning, and Nature connection activities. - Generate high-quality strategic partnership among rural youth organisations to access and leverage Erasmus+ opportunities. - Promote sustainability and regeneration in response to climate and biodiversity crises. Approach and standards Inclusion & diversity: proactive outreach, accessible environments, intercultural learning, support for participants with fewer opportunities. Environmental sustainability: eco-logistics, local organic food systems, zero-waste practices, nature-based learning. Digital & blended cooperation: online prep/follow-up, shared workspaces (Google drive, e-mail, WhatsApp, Map), accessible communication. (See the map: https://rerural.glide.page) Participatory learning: non-formal & experiential learning, integrated with the local community, learner-centred methods; reflection and recognition of learning (Youthpass). Quality management: clear partner roles, timely preparation, green travel arragenements, continuos support for participants, transparent finances, and continuous monitoring and evaluation. *Intended impact The project aimed to connect, engage and empower youth and youth workers to co-lead rural regeneration; reverse rural exodus by increasing the attractiveness and resilience of rural areas; and strengthen European cooperation grounded in inclusion, ecological responsibility and shared democratic values.
