The "DiscoverEYG" project was developed with the main objective of promoting social inclusion, active participation and personal development of 20 young people with fewer opportunities through DiscoverEU. The project aimed to address the needs identified among young people from disadvantaged economic, social, cultural and geographical backgrounds, many of whom live in peripheral areas with limited access to European learning opportunities, participation and international mobility. The project’s primary goal was to create concrete opportunities for European participation for 20 young people with fewer opportunities through four sustainable international mobility experiences: DiscoverEYG WEST, DiscoverEYG NORTH, DiscoverEYG SOUTH and DiscoverEYG EAST. Each mobility was designed as a 21-day educational journey based on experiential learning, cultural discovery and the development of key competences for active European citizenship. The specific objectives of the project focused on several complementary dimensions. Firstly, it sought to promote inclusion and equal opportunities by ensuring that young people facing economic, social or geographical barriers could access international experiences on an equal basis with their peers. The project aimed to remove the financial, logistical and emotional barriers that often prevent these young people from participating in European mobility programmes. Secondly, the project aimed to strengthen participants’ personal, social and intercultural competences, including communication, teamwork, autonomy, adaptability, problem-solving, language skills and the ability to live and interact in multicultural environments. Through sustainable travel and interaction with different European contexts, participants developed essential competences for their future social, educational and professional integration. Another key objective was to bring young people closer to the European Youth Goals and the values of the European Union, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of concepts such as European citizenship, solidarity, inclusion, participatory democracy, environmental sustainability and cultural diversity. The activities implemented during the mobilities encouraged critical reflection on current European challenges and motivated participants to take a more active role within their local communities.
