Objectives

The project aimed to: develop the trainers’ competences in media literacy, digital safety, and countering disinformation to meet the needs of 60+ seniors; enhance the competences of 10 senior participants in media literacy, recognising fake news and protecting personal data online; and actively involve seniors in local activities in our community to promote media literacy, digital safety, and critical thinking in order to combat fake news.

Background

The project was initiated to address Empower Plus’ need to train its trainers in media literacy and digital safety, in order to respond to the vulnerabilities described by the 60+ seniors who take part in its activities. The seniors indicated they are frequently exposed to fake news and online fraud, which affects their confidence and day-to-day decision-making. The project aimed to strengthen the organisation’s capacity to provide up-to-date and accessible education to this target group.
