Objectives

The project “Sustainable Youth, Smart Consumption” was developed in response to the growing need for young people to understand, practice, and promote responsible consumption in their communities. Across Europe and locally, youth face increasing challenges related to consumerism, waste of resources, limited awareness of sustainable alternatives, and insufficient opportunities for democratic participation in sustainability policies. The main goal of the project was to empower young people and youth workers to become ambassadors of sustainable lifestyles, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to influence their peers and communities through education and action. The project included two complementary activities — a Training Course for youth workers and a Youth Exchange for young people — ensuring both professional development and grassroots impact. Specific objectives were to: Strengthen competences on smart consumption by equipping 21 youth workers and 47 young people from 7 countries with knowledge and practical skills on sustainable consumption, circular economy, needs vs. wants, waste reduction, and eco-responsibility. Develop educational resources through the co-creation of a Toolkit for Smart Consumption, including workshops, games, quizzes, videos, and digital tools to be used in local and international follow-up activities. Promote democratic participation, helping participants understand how responsible consumption connects to civic engagement and encouraging their involvement in community initiatives and local advocacy. Enhance inclusion and intercultural learning by ensuring equal participation of young people with fewer opportunities and from diverse social, economic, and geographical backgrounds, fostering confidence and intercultural competences.
