The project “EmpowerDS: Cultivating Responsible Environmental and Community Citizenship through Critical Thinking” aimed to empower young people with Down syndrome by enhancing their personal development, self-confidence, and active participation in society. The main objective was to support participants in developing essential life skills such as critical thinking, communication, decision-making, and teamwork through non-formal education methods adapted to their needs. At the same time, the project focused on promoting active citizenship and social inclusion by encouraging participants to become more engaged in their communities and to better understand their rights and responsibilities. Another key objective was to increase environmental awareness and responsibility among participants, helping them understand the impact of their actions on the environment and motivating them to adopt more sustainable behaviours in their daily lives. Additionally, the project aimed to challenge stereotypes related to people with Down syndrome and to promote inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunities. By creating a safe and supportive international environment, the project encouraged intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation between participants from different countries. Overall, the project sought to contribute to the long-term empowerment of young people with Down syndrome, enabling them to become more confident, independent, and active members of society.
