Objectives

This project was born out of the need to offer the young people qualitative and innovative contexts where they can learn more about preserving the environment. The motivation to do so was born after a discussion between Elena, Kamil, Andreas and Lorena back in October 2022 during a partnership building activity. These 4 enthusiastic young people went to represent their organisations in a PBA. During a session, they were encouraged to think together about a project relevant for young people. The 4 of them got together on the terrace and agreed that all young people could benefit from a project about ecology. After the 4 of us returned home, they started writing a strategy so they could convince the presidents of their org. to approve this partnership. Firstly, Elena’s organisation is striving to implement more sustainable practices in their community so, when she got back, the boarding members and the president of her association were very supportive of this initiative. A video call and a structured Excel later, they managed to talk their organisations into agreeing. As we realised that Romania lacks ecological education the most but also has a lot of potential for change, we decided together that Active Be Cicleta Association will host this YE. After agreeing to be partners, we had some online meetings focused on brainstorming and team building. We discovered that we have common values and needs: we are groups of young people passionate about nature protection and we want to learn more about this in order to help other young people do the same. We noticed that there is a large number of young people who are unaware of the importance of protecting the environment, and even less how to practise specific sustainable measures. After reading the evaluator’s feedback, we realised we haven’t offered enough details about our needs assessment process, so we would want to be more specific. The survey was created with the help of Giulia from Bubburriga who has experience in statistical analysis data. It was distributed between 5 - 15 August 2023 to all the volunteers and beneficiaries (around 80 people) from the 4 partner organisations, aged 18-30 years old. Some of the questions we included were: - What does sustainability mean to you? Please describe in your own words. - Have you ever participated in any ecological or sustainability-focused activities? If yes, please list them. - How many eco-friendly habits do you currently practise in your daily life? (e.g: using reusable bags, conserving water) - Where do you usually get your information about environmental sustainability? (e.g: social media, school, family) - On a scale of 1 to 10, how interested are you in learning more about environmental sustainability in an international context? - How important is it for you to be part of a community that actively works towards environmental sustainability? The answers reaffirmed our initial beliefs. Out of the 58 answers of the young volunteers of our organisations: - 38 offered vague definitions of sustainability - 34 have never participated in an ecological activity in their community - only 11 named more than 5 eco-friendly habits they currently practise - the majority (52) gets their information about this topic from social media - the majority (48) answered with grades above 7 when asked if they are interested in learning about this in an international context We identified a clear list of needs on which we formulated our problem and solution tree. The main ones we extracted were: - to learn more about the concept of sustainability - to have a community where they can learn and practise ecological habits - to find reliable sources of information - to discover this topic more in depth in an international context ride to a greener life was a youth exchange about sustainability in all its way and beauty, taking place between 15 July2024-15 May 2015. This project initiative was co-created by 4 partner organizations: Active Be cicleta- Romania, Active Kosmos- Spain, Bubburiga-Italy, W.S.M. - Poland. Aim: to offer 24 young people a 10 mounth project experience where they try different eco-friendly techniques and learn what is more sustainable lifestyle and how they can implement it in their everyday life. Our objectives were: 1. To help the 24 participants to improve their skills related to sustainabiliy, by teaching them at least 3 methods to preserve their resources (reducing their consumtion/byer customs, reusing their resources, recycling) 2. To improve participants knowlegdeabout the most devastating consequences of a non-sustainable lifestyle(environmental pollution , climate change, animal suffering, etc) and the actions they can take to stop that. 3. To help participants become more motivated and amtitious to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle by offering them the chance to practise innovative in nature experiences(such as bicycle rides, gardening and nature maditation)
