The project was designed to respond to the identified needs of our NGOs youth workers and the youths we work with, particularly the lack of engaging methods to stimulate youth participation, activism and active citizenship in local communities. The main aim was to strengthen the professional competences of youth workers from the partner organisations, so that they can more effectively empower youths to become active, vocal, and responsible citizens. Implementing this project, we achieved a qualitative improvement in youth work practices of 27 youth workers by experiential learning using solargraphy as an innovative, creative, low-cost and environmentally friendly method that combines art, activism, sustainability and advocacy. The project offered approaches for youth workers like practical tools that can better attract youths, especially those with low motivation or limited prior engagement. Firstly, the project developed the competences of 27 youth workers from 9 countries in designing, implementing and evaluating advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns. This included strengthening their knowledge of youth activism, civic participation and advocacy processes; enhancing their skills in campaign design, visual storytelling, digital editing, facilitation; and fostering attitudes such as proactivity, social responsibility, openness, and confidence in supporting youth-led initiatives. Secondly, an important objective was to increase the capacity of youth workers to implement more engaging, creative, and inclusive activities with young people in their communities. Based on the needs analysis conducted at the application stage, many youth workers lacked attractive and practical and effective methods that resonate with young people. Solargraphy, as a DIY and experiential method, was intentionally chosen to address this gap and to offer a transferable approach that can be easily replicated in different social and economic contexts. Thirdly, the project aimed to strengthen youth workers’ understanding of youth activism and active citizenship and to equip them with concrete tools to encourage youths to express their views, engage in community life, and participate in democratic processes. Through the training course, youth workers were prepared to guide young people from identifying community needs to transforming these needs into meaningful advocacy actions and campaigns. Fourthly, the project aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices in youth work. Solargraphy relies on recycled materials and sunlight, making it a strong example of how environmental responsibility can be embedded into non-formal education and activism. This objective also aligned with the Erasmus+ horizontal priority on the green transition. Fifthly, the project aimed to strengthen the digital dimension of youth work, by improving participants’ competences in using digital tools and online platforms for advocacy, campaign dissemination, and visibility. Youth workers were encouraged to combine analogue creative processes with digital storytelling and social media outreach. The project had the following core objectives: 1. During 12 months of the project, develop the competences of 27 YW in designing, implementing, and evaluating advocacy campaigns using solargraphy as a tool for social change. 2. During 12 months of the project, to increase the capacities of 27 YW to implement more engaging youth activities through the use of solargraphy as an innovative, creative and eco-friendly tool. 3. During 12 months of the project, to increase the knowledge of 27 YW about youth activism and how to encourage it in their communities. 4. During 12 months of the project, popularize the solargraphy as an innovative tool for social activism for 27 YW. A transversal objective of the project was to reinforce European values, such as democracy, participation, inclusion, freedom of expression, equality, and respect for diversity. Working in an international and intercultural setting, participants experienced these values in practice and reflected on how to promote them through their daily youth work.
