Objectives

The objectives of AI-WORK project proposal were the following a) Develop AI Up-skilling pathways: design and implement structured up-skilling pathways specifically tailored to small business owners, particularly those over the age of 50, to enhance their competencies in the field of AI. These pathways were designed to cater to individuals with varying levels of AI knowledge, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all. b) Increase digital readiness of SME owners and managers: AI-WORK provided adult workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand, adopt, and effectively use AI technologies in their businesses, leading to improved efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness, as well as digital readiness, a key feature in the ever-evolving labour market. c) Impact the labour market and adult education: The project created new, innovative, and replicable various modules on AI training that served as a comprehensive resource to be adapted and replicated by other adult education institutions, businesses, or organizations, extending the impact of the project beyond the consortium.

Background

The main motivation of AI-WORK was to empower small business owners, particularly those over the age of 50, with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and stay ahead of the competition. The rapid evolution of technology has made it increasingly challenging for small business owners to keep up with the latest advancements, especially in the field of AI. This poses a significant obstacle for small businesses as they strive to meet customer expectations, streamline operations, and remain competitive in the market. However, several factors contribute to the low adoption of AI among small businesses, including cost, lack of knowledge, and a shortage of skilled professionals. AI-WORK aimed to address these challenges and provide a comprehensive solution. By up-skilling small business owners in AI, the project has increased their digital readiness and enhance their competencies in this field. The project enabled the adult SMEs managers in general and our partnership's own staff in particular to harness the potential of AI and leverage it effectively within their businesses.
