They sought to transfer and adapt the Eyes Shut methodology (sensory theater in which the spectator becomes the main character) to adult education organizations in Romania, Serbia, and Cyprus. They aimed to train 18 trainers/adult workers, with the support of 5 expert mentors, to be able to design and facilitate inclusive activities for people with visual impairments. A major objective was to co-create and test three local shows together with adults with visual impairments, validating the language, safety, and sensory elements. They also aimed to publish a multilingual methodological guide and an open access audio guide, develop a website with project resources, and increase visibility and cooperation with relevant institutions and associations.
The partnership applied to address a clear need: adults with visual impairments have limited access to inclusive cultural and learning experiences, and adult education organizations typically lack tested methods and skills to design activities that are not based on sight. A practical approach was needed, co-created with the people concerned, to transform participation from "watching" to "living" an experience and to increase empathy and awareness in the community. The project brought the Eyes Shut methodology, developed in Serbia, to the international stage for the first time, to be adapted and replicated in Romania and Cyprus, with direct benefits for inclusion, participation, and the quality of accessible cultural activities.
