Through this project, we succeeded in encouraging young people to actively engage in the life of four local communities – Šabac, Novi Sad, Loznica, and Bajina Bašta – and to contribute to improving the quality of life by identifying youth needs and formulating and communicating concrete proposals for advancement. Throughout the project, we developed skills in critical thinking, media literacy, and public advocacy, with particular focus on the design and implementation of creative campaigns in both online and in-person formats. Young people from different cities provided one another with systemic support, creating a network of mutual empowerment and trust. Focusing on the theme of youth activism, we addressed mental and physical health, as well as culture and the arts, exploring different ways young people can become active citizens and participate in social change. A large number of young people participated in the Z4Change project, many of whom had been involved since the project idea development phase. This ensured their voices were heard and their needs communicated to decision-makers. This report was written by me, Jelena Čeivanović Tadić, a young person who had the opportunity to learn and develop my skills through this project. Although the report was created with the support and input of other team members, I believe I rose to the task and am proud to have completed it independently. This process has further helped me understand the broader context of the project and has empowered me for similar tasks in the future. Working on the project fostered the development of key competencies such as teamwork, communication, organizational skills, sensitivity, and critical thinking. A special emphasis was placed on knowledge exchange and mutual support, which enabled each team member in the four communities to contribute in line with their interests and potential. Through projects and processes like this, young people not only develop personal and professional skills but also gain a deeper understanding of how they can influence their community and the wider society. By becoming familiar with decision-making mechanisms and the role of civil society, young people gain insight into how institutions function and how public policies are shaped. By actively participating in research, campaigns, and the creation of recommendations, they no longer remain passive recipients of policies but become active contributors and advocates for change. These processes empower young people to recognize their own agency and importance in society, encouraging them to think critically, connect with others, and advocate for solutions that address the needs of their generation. In this way, projects like this become a platform for learning about democratic participation and for the development of young leaders who will shape responsible and just policies in the future. The aim of the project was to empower young people from four local communities (Šabac, Loznica, Novi Sad, and Bajina Bašta) for active participation in society, to identify and articulate the needs of youth in their communities, to develop advocacy and media literacy skills, and to design and implement creative campaigns – both online and in person – with a focus on youth activism through the lens of mental and physical health, culture, and the arts.
