By implementing the project, we achieved the following outcomes: Increase knowledge on how to embed gender and equality issues into daily teaching at the K-12 level and in concrete, how to: a) Overcome gender stereotypes by using contextual and empirical based examples on how to embed gender in daily teaching. b) Promote inclusiveness and gender progression by encouraging teachers and managers to use the maturity scale developed at the beginning of the project to identify levels of maturity and levels of advancements. c) Document teaching innovation by capturing some examples of how K 12 teachers update and improve their teaching materials, lesson planning, and assessment methods after participating the workshops. d) Develop a generic policy plan that can guide the implementation of gender strategies and action plans in K-12 educational institutions in EU and non-EU countries. e) Promote further development of K-12 teachers, based on empirical and contextual needs through the identification of level of maturity, and goals to achieve.
Diversity and inclusion are essential to lead to new pedagogical models and renewal of teaching. While the benefits of embedding gender in the STEM areas are well-documented, most initiatives focus on high level education or on how to achieve systemic changes, overlooking the practical integration of gender and inclusion into everyday teaching at the K-12 level. The project involves teachers, pre service-teachers, and school managers at the K-12 level in EU and non-EU countries and addresses the following challenges: ● Capture and evaluate levels of maturity on the integration of gender and equality ● Equip educators at K12 level with practical and contextualized resources on how to embed gender inclusive practices into daily teaching. ● Give educators inspiration and share best practices in how to have a gender-friendly environment in the classroom as well as how to analyze progression and advancement. ● Show school managers at K-12 level how to identify issues to include in policies and/ or work plans to stimulate and facilitate the inclusion of gender in educational activities and how to capture organizational progression and levels of maturity.
