Objectives

This project was set up to take 30 youngsters in the ages 18-25 from the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden on board sail training ships the Ingo and Skibladner. II The Youth Exchanges were structured around three objectives, personal development, intercultural exchanges and sustainability/environmental awareness. We worked on these three objectives while simultaneously using the Sail Training method, a powerful tool for gaining leadership and teamwork skills. The Exchanges were inspired by more than 15 years of experience organising Youth Exchanges at Sea. This project, however, was the first one where we worked with two ships simultaneously and sailed solely in the Scandinavian waters. The project gave youngsters a chance to develop valuable life skills, delivered through proven experiential learning methods. During the exchange, the youngsters explored the Scandinavian coasts guided by experienced mentors, crew, and a marine biologist from The Ocean Movement.
