Objectives

The purpose of the project was to provide young people from different countries with opportunities for experiential learning, personal growth, and intercultural exchange in areas that significantly affect youth health and well-being. Through three youth exchanges, we aimed to help participants develop their potential, broaden their perspectives, and gain knowledge and experiences that would inspire them to actively contribute to their communities. Each exchange had its own thematic focus, yet all shared a common goal – to empower young people to recognize their impact and responsibility in creating a healthier, more inclusive, and more compassionate environment. The first youth exchange focused on mental health among young people. The goal was to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where participants could connect, share experiences, and explore ways to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations about mental health, and build supportive peer environments. The program included group reflections, mindfulness practices, and relaxation exercises, all aimed at fostering a sense of acceptance, psychological safety, and emotional literacy. The second exchange addressed substance use among youth and the importance of making responsible life choices. Participants explored the physical, emotional, and social consequences of substance use and discussed the influence of social and peer pressure. The emphasis was on prevention and strengthening young people’s self-confidence to make informed decisions and understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The program also encouraged the exchange of good practices between countries and a better understanding of different cultural approaches to prevention, contributing to a broader European dialogue on this topic. The third youth exchange was dedicated to non-communicable diseases and raising awareness of the factors that influence their occurrence. Through teamwork, practical workshops, and in-depth discussions, young people explored the importance of healthy nutrition, physical activity, and mental balance. They reflected on how they could contribute to reducing risk factors in their local environments. A special focus was placed on identifying solutions that connect personal responsibility with the collective responsibility of the community for individual and public health. All three exchanges were based on non-formal learning, collaboration, and reflection. Participants developed key competences outlined in the Youthpass framework – from initiative and teamwork to intercultural understanding, problem-solving, and learning to learn. The programs encouraged active citizenship, empathy, and solidarity while enhancing participants’ abilities to work collaboratively and lead initiatives in their local environments. Another goal of the project was to build long-term connections between participants and partner organizations. The exchanges created a foundation for future collaboration, shared ideas, and new joint projects. Young people became part of a European peer network united by common values – health, respect, cooperation, and care for a shared future. The project was therefore multifaceted: it provided opportunities for personal and social development, promoted intercultural dialogue, and raised awareness about health, prevention, and social responsibility. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we enabled young people to feel heard, valued, and capable of contributing to positive change in their communities and across Europe.
