Objectives

We have already divided our goals into two key reasons: the first is to educate young people about the connection between humans and nature, and the second is to offer activists in our organization the opportunity to participate in a larger, international project and organization at a higher level. We wanted to remind young people of the pressing problems caused by the creation and growth of cities, as these mean they have less and less contact with nature. With this project, we aimed to make young people aware of the importance of our environment and caring for it. We showed them several ways in which people can engage with nature, live in contact with nature, and what nature can offer us if we know how to take advantage of it. We also placed special emphasis on environmental protection. Participants learned about the concepts of proper waste management and food handling in a way that minimizes waste, and they learned about various ways to reduce the amount of waste in their daily lives. As we had anticipated at the outset, most of the participants live in urban environments, so we conducted the second part of the exchange in such surroundings and showed them, using specific examples, how to stay in touch with nature and care for it even in the hustle and bustle of the city. In this part of the exchange, we explored smaller natural areas—parks and the outskirts of the city. We also brought nature into the home environment and showed participants how they can grow food at home and reduce waste as much as possible. Another, but equally important, reason was to enable our members to organize a project at such a level that they had the opportunity to tackle more extensive planning, establish contacts in the local environment, develop a diverse program, and, finally, of course, getting to know new cultures, broadening their horizons, and sharing good practices with young people from other parts of Europe, both in terms of working in a multicultural environment and in terms of the project topics and living in contact with nature.
