Objectives

Today, young people face numerous challenges amidst rapidly changing social, economic, and cultural conditions. Globalization, digitalization, and rapid technological advancements increase access to information while simultaneously impacting interpersonal relationships, identity development, and social cohesion. In Turkey and many regions of Europe, young people face challenges such as poverty, limited educational opportunities, unemployment, gender inequality, and cultural prejudices. These challenges can negatively impact both their psychological well-being and their active participation in social life. Young people, particularly those living in rural areas and disadvantaged neighborhoods, struggle to access quality education opportunities, and their opportunities to express themselves and realize their potential are limited. Modern educational approaches are moving away from a focus solely on the transfer of knowledge and are increasingly focused on developing individuals' knowledge-seeking skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and 21st-century skills. In this context, game-based learning (GBL) stands out as a powerful method that enables young people to actively participate in learning processes, makes learning fun, and promotes lasting learning. Through game-based learning, young people acquire both academic knowledge and social skills through "doing and experiencing," while also developing skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, risk-taking, and strategic planning. Our project adopts the fundamental principle of defending European values such as human rights, democracy, equality, and cultural diversity. Supporting today's young people in a way that can build bridges between different cultures, break down prejudices, and develop an inclusive perspective is critical not only for individual but also for social peace. The overall goal of the "How About Playing with Me?" project is to support the social, cognitive, and emotional development of young people through a game-based learning model, encouraging them to discover their own potential and embrace the shared values of Europe. In line with this overall objective, our project aims to: • Develop young people's skills in accessing and using information, • Encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyle habits, • Increase their capacity for intercultural dialogue and collaboration, • Instill the critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills required in the 21st century. The primary objective of this project is to strengthen social ties, increase intercultural understanding, and encourage healthy lifestyle habits by enabling young people from different age groups to meet in shared play areas. The rationale is based on three main axes: 1. Reducing Social Isolation: The pandemic and subsequent social restrictions have increased feelings of loneliness, decline in communication skills, and psychological problems in children and young people. This project aims to alleviate the negative effects of social isolation by increasing opportunities for face-to-face interaction. 2. Developing Cultural Interaction and Empathy: The project will enable children and young people from different cultural backgrounds to get to know and understand each other through a shared play environment. Since play is a universal language, language barriers will be minimized in this process. 3-Physical Activity and Healthy Living: Preventing a sedentary lifestyle and contributing to the reduction of obesity and other health problems are among the project's key objectives. Activities that blend traditional and modern games will help participants adopt an active lifestyle. The project's methodological foundation is based on the Game-Based Learning approach. This approach argues that learning can occur effectively not only in the classroom but also through play, discovery, and experience. Piaget's theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky's social learning theory form the educational basis of the project. Play is not only a fun activity but also a learning tool. Children develop problem-solving skills, cooperation, leadership qualities, and emotional resilience through play. Activities throughout the project fall into three main categories: Social Interaction Games (Gaining circles, group activities) Cultural Games (Traditional games brought by each participant from their own culture) Physical Activity Games (Sports tournaments, outdoor play marathons) All of these activities are designed with an inclusive approach, open to everyone regardless of gender, language, religion, or disability. The "How About Playing with Me?" project is a successful example that embodies the power and potential of Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges.
