Objectives

According to the definition made by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, ecotourism is accepted as “an approach that guarantees the continuity of the world’s natural resources, while supporting the economic growth of local communities and preserving their social and cultural unity.” It has been determined that definitions of the concept of ecotourism generally include four key elements: nature, ecological and cultural continuity, economic contributions to local communities, and education. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has also listed the components of ecotourism as follows (Yılmaz, 2008): Contributing to the conservation of biodiversity, Preserving and improving the living standards of local people, Raising the environmental awareness of visitors and local communities and encouraging them to be conscious in tourism activities, Small-scale businesses serving small groups of tourists, Using non-renewable resources carefully and minimally, Encouraging participation in tourism activities and raising awareness in this regard. Rather than being just an important opportunity for local development, environmental and economic sustainability, the promotion of ecotourism has now become a necessity. This promotion can only be achieved by connecting ecotourism opportunities with young people who have entrepreneurial potential and with youth workers who provide opportunities to young people in every field. In light of this information, the objectives of the project are as follows: To raise awareness about ecotourism, To promote sustainable and eco-friendly tourism awareness in Turkey and in the European Union, To increase the number of ecotourism initiatives, To increase the number of young entrepreneurs in the field of ecotourism, To carry out international entrepreneurship trainings in the field of ecotourism, To enhance the potential and knowledge of youth organizations in the field of ecotourism, To contribute to the growth of tourism potential in Turkey and in the European Union, To contribute to tourism policies implemented in Turkey and in the European Union, To contribute to National Tourism Week, To strengthen international cooperation among institutions working in the field of youth, To increase the knowledge and skills of youth workers in entrepreneurship, To increase the number of beneficiaries of the Erasmus+ programme, To boost the tourism potential of Bayburt, To contribute to the international recognition of Bayburt. This training course, based on bringing together non-governmental organizations working on sustainability and entrepreneurship, has achieved the above-mentioned objectives related to ecotourism by benefiting from their existing experiences and through the trainings provided and to be provided.
