Objectives

The KA154 “Growing Together: Orphaned Youth Project” aimed to draw attention to the situation of the most vulnerable members of society—orphaned children, orphaned youth, and single mothers—to strengthen their psychological well-being, ensure equal opportunities in vocational education and career life, and reduce the disadvantages and discrimination they face in various areas. The project also sought to encourage not only orphaned youth but also other young people in society to take on active roles in social responsibility and leadership, promoting youth engagement and solidarity. In doing so, the project aspired to foster both individual and collective awareness among young people, contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and cohesive society. Within this framework, the project focused on reducing discrimination in areas where orphans are disadvantaged, promoting equal opportunities, and encouraging a human rights–based culture of peace, tolerance, and non-violence. It further aimed to enhance global citizenship awareness, highlight the contribution of cultural diversity and heritage to sustainable development, and equip young people with the necessary knowledge and skills to advance sustainability. Based on the data and insights gathered throughout the project, a “Young Orphans Action Plan and Strategy” was developed and presented to decision-makers, public institutions, and relevant stakeholders. This document offered concrete policy recommendations and aimed to contribute to the development of sustainable social policies addressing the needs of orphaned and disadvantaged youth. In conclusion, the project aimed to enable young people to acquire values, knowledge, and competencies that promote sustainable development, inclusion, and active citizenship. It ultimately sought to support the full and equal participation of orphaned and disadvantaged youth in social life, empowering them to contribute meaningfully both to their own personal growth and to the broader social fabric.
