The main objective of the MUZICAD project was to promote the social inclusion, active participation, and personal development of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through structured, music-based learning approaches. By using music as an inclusive and non-verbal tool, the project aimed to enhance communication, social interaction, emotional expression, self-confidence, and participation in group activities. A key objective was to design and implement a practical and transferable handbook that provides educators, youth workers, therapists, and families with clear guidance and adaptable music-based games suitable for both formal and non-formal education settings. The handbook was developed to respond to real educational needs by offering low-cost, easy-to-use activities that can be adapted to different abilities and contexts. The project aimed to strengthen the professional capacity of educators and institutions, raise awareness of inclusion and diversity, and foster cooperation at local and European levels. Through transnational collaboration and the sharing of good practices, MUZICAD sought to ensure the sustainability, accessibility, and long-term impact of its results beyond the project duration.
We applied for the MUZICAD project to respond to the limited availability of inclusive, practical, and accessible educational tools for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly in non-formal education and youth work contexts. Many autistic young people face barriers to social participation, communication, and emotional expression, while educators and youth workers often lack adaptable methodologies to support their inclusion. Music was identified as a powerful medium to address these needs, as it supports emotional expression, interaction, creativity, and social engagement without relying solely on verbal communication. The project aimed to bridge the gap between artistic practice and inclusive education by developing structured, music-based activities that are easy to implement and transferable across different educational settings. MUZICAD also addresses the need for capacity building by providing practical resources that promote inclusion, diversity, and equal participation.
