The primary objective of the MEDIAI project was to integrate AI competencies into multimedia VET programmes in a structured and sustainable way. This included the development of practical training modules and tools that have been directly implemented by educators and used by professionals. A second key objective was to create a transferable AI Multimedia VET Toolkit ensuring scalability and long-term impact. Additionally, the project aimed to strengthen cooperation between VET providers and industry stakeholders, ensuring that educational content reflects the time requirements. Finally, the project aimed to produce a research-based understanding of how AI is transforming multimedia professions, providing a solid foundation for curriculum innovation.
MEDIAI was developed in response to a growing gap between training in the multimedia sector and the changing needs of the labour market. TPS Chemnitz identified the need to modernise the training curricula that no longer reflected current trends. This gap highlighted the need for practical, AI resources to equip trainers and learners with appropriate skills. UNLAB, as a multimedia and innovation hub, faced a complementary challenge. While its professionals already used AI tools, they lacked a structured understanding of future developments and long-term implications. MEDIAI addressed this by supporting the co-creation of educational materials and strengthening collaboration with the VET sector, reinforcing UNLAB’s role as a bridge between industry and education. At target group level, the project supported both educators and professionals. The trainers needed guidance to effectively teach AI skills, while multimedia professionals required accessible training to stay competitive and adapt through upskilling. Overall, MEDIAI connected these needs: TPS Chemnitz improved the relevance and quality of its training, while UNLAB expanded its educational role and strategic AI knowledge.
