With the ArtSTEM, we aimed to develop and implement an educational approach that combines art and STEM subjects through a STEAM perspective. One of our main objectives was to design and test additional lesson plans allowing students to explore scientific concepts through artistic activities. For this purpose, we developed a set of modules including lesson contents, short videos, interactive questions, activity materials, drama scenarios and assessment tools. Another objective was to create digital learning opportunities. We developed a digital platform and uploaded all modules to this platform. We aimed to make the learning process more accessible and flexible for both students and teachers. We also aimed to support teachers by providing ready-to-use educational materials and digital resources that can be applied in classrooms. In addition, we aimed to encourage student participation, particularly for girls, in STEM-related topics by offering engaging, creative and motivating learning experiences and to support more inclusive access to these subjects. Finally, we aimed to strengthen cooperation between partner organisations by working together and transferring experience.
We applied for the ArtSTEM project to improve student engagement in STEM education through a more creative and interdisciplinary approach. During the preparation phase, we identified that students can find abstract scientific concepts difficult to engage with through traditional teaching methods. We also saw a need to make STEM subjects more accessible, creative, and connected to practical learning. For this reason, we designed the project to combine art and STEM through a STEAM approach. We developed modules that allow students to explore scientific concepts through drawing, observation, and creative activities, supporting a more active and experience-based learning process. We also aimed to encourage broader participation in STEM, especially among girls, and to create more inclusive learning environments. In addition, we focused on digital transformation by developing a platform with videos, games, external resources, and interactive content. ArtSTEM project helped us test a flexible model that combines art, science, and digital tools in education.
