In today's society, young people face a multitude of challenges, from social and economic exclusion to a lack of educational and mobility opportunities. These problems are especially acute for young people living in rural areas, where access to resources and opportunities is even more limited. It is crucial to empower these young people to overcome these barriers and develop their potential as active and responsible citizens. CONNECTEU III was born to address several key problems and needs identified among young people living in rural areas. In order to better understand these needs, surveys were conducted in collaboration with the youth centers of various rural communities with whom we have formed a strong network, including Sumacàrcer, Guadassuar, Algemesí, Alcudia, and Simat de la Valldigna. The survey results revealed several challenges faced by young people in these areas. Firstly, many rural young people are prevented from participating in programs like DiscoverEU due to additional barriers, including financial limitations, lack of access to information and resources, and fewer opportunities for mobility and personal development. This situation causes a sense of isolation and reduces these young people's opportunities to broaden their horizons and acquire new skills. Additionally, a significant lack of awareness and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was identified among these young people. This includes a general lack of knowledge about how their actions can contribute to global goals such as combating climate change, promoting gender equality, or reducing inequalities. Respondents also expressed a strong desire to participate in experiences that foster intercultural dialogue and reinforce their sense of European identity, aspects they consider crucial for their personal development and for feeling part of a larger community. Therefore, the objectives of the CONNECTEU III project are as follows: OE1 - Facilitate equitable access to mobility opportunities: 25 young people with fewer opportunities from rural areas will participate in DiscoverEU by providing comprehensive support that addresses financial, informational, and logistical barriers. This will include financial assistance to cover travel costs, personalized guidance to prepare participants before the experience, and preparatory workshops addressing both practical and emotional aspects of the trip. OE2 - Raise awareness about the SDGs through mobility activities:** Educate and engage participants on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by integrating awareness activities into the mobility experience. We will conduct workshops, discussions, and projects focused on various SDGs. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on and adopt sustainable practices during their travels and in their daily lives. OE3 - Promote intercultural dialogue and European identity: Foster intercultural dialogue and a sense of belonging to the European Union among participants by providing opportunities for meaningful interactions and collaborative activities with peers from different countries. The project will include cultural exchange activities, team-building exercises, and joint projects that promote mutual understanding and respect. Participants will also engage in activities that celebrate European heritage and values, strengthening their sense of European identity. In our previous youth-related projects, both in KA1 and KA2 programs, Xano Channel has consistently prioritized the inclusion of vulnerable rural youth. In the context of the DiscoverEU program, we will focus on selecting young people facing the following challenges: - Geographical Challenges: Young people living in isolated rural areas of the Valencian region, with limited access to public transportation. - Educational Challenges: Young people who are not currently studying or working, due to various circumstances. - Economic Challenges: Young people who depend on social assistance or who are in precarious economic situations. - Cultural Challenges: Young migrants, members of ethnic minorities, or those who have difficulty integrating culturally. - Social Challenges: Young people facing discrimination based on gender, religion, sexual orientation, or who have limited social skills, or come from complex family backgrounds. In this new initiative, we will strengthen our collaboration with the local authorities that participated in the previous edition, including the municipalities of Sumacàrcer, Guadassuar, Algemesí, Alcudia, and Simat de la Valldigna. This will also involve working closely with their respective development agencies.
