Objectives

We wanted to strengthen the capacity of teachers and after-school staff to promote student well-being and to prevent and manage various forms of bullying. We aimed to precisely identify the causes of distress in three distinct territorial contexts and formulate recommendations for public decision-makers. The project also sought to develop new intersectoral partnerships and consolidate cooperation between France, Italy, and French Polynesia. Through blended learning, including pilot workshops with students and multiplier training workshops for other primary school staff, we aimed to improve the psychosocial skills of professionals, by fostering a shift in their approach, and of the children themselves. Finally, we wanted to co-create transferable and free tools (methodological tools, a study, recommendations, and an e-booklet) in order to have a lasting and far-reaching impact at the local and European levels.

Background

We applied to this project to address a worrying increase in situations of distress, violence, and harassment among primary school students, particularly in priority neighborhoods in Strasbourg, Naples, and Punaauia in French Polynesia. Since the post-COVID period, schools have faced increased challenges in learning, emotional management, and social cohesion. Teachers and support staff expressed a need for training, practical tools, and the exchange of best practices to promote well-being and prevent violence both in person and online. The project also addresses the need for international cooperation by integrating a first-stage, outermost region partner to strengthen the capacities of existing structures and foster an intersectoral approach involving schools, families, and local educational stakeholders.
