The project aimed to design, experiment with and evaluate an educational programme based on Petit Bridge in European primary schools. The main objectives were to develop a progressive and accessible pedagogical model allowing bridge to be introduced in the school environment, to test this programme in several European countries and to analyse its effects on pupils. The project also aimed to produce educational resources and training tools for volunteers and educational stakeholders, to strengthen cooperation between bridge federations, researchers and educational institutions, and to support the dissemination of the programme at European level based on the results of the pilot and field feedback.
The Petit Bridge at School (PBAS) project emerged from a shared observation among several European bridge federations and educational partners: schools are looking for innovative pedagogical approaches that help develop both pupils’ cognitive and social skills. At the same time, bridge organisations wanted to structure educational initiatives that already existed but were often scattered. The project therefore proposed to explore bridge as an educational tool, fostering cooperation, communication, concentration and decision-making among primary school pupils. It also addressed the need to develop a structured and transferable pedagogical model, accompanied by educational resources and a scientific evaluation, in order to facilitate its use in different European school contexts.
