The main objective of our "Exploring the Diversity of Europe" project was to remove barriers to mobility for young people in Mayotte, who are doubly disadvantaged by geographical isolation and complex socio-economic circumstances. We designed this project to be a genuine catalyst for inclusion, empowerment, and civic education. More specifically, through this project, we aimed to: Promote inclusion and equal opportunities: offer young people living far from home opportunities a first educational travel experience ("first flight") to overcome insularity and a lack of financial resources. Strengthen a sense of European belonging: bring young people from Mayotte closer to the institutions and values of the European Union by making their European citizenship tangible (particularly through a visit to the European Parliament). Develop transferable skills (soft skills): foster autonomy, adaptability, self-confidence, initiative, and intercultural communication by taking young people out of their comfort zone. Promoting dialogue and intercultural exchange: creating concrete bridges between young people from Mayotte and young people from Belgium (visit to an association in Couvin to meet young Belgians, cultural visits) to deconstruct prejudices.
