Objectives

The "Diversity Express vol. 2: Where Tracks Lead, Stories Follow" project aims to contribute to social inclusion and diversity, develop intercultural skills, promote environmental awareness and responsibility, and empower participants to become active citizens within their communities. This will be achieved through a train journey across Europe for twenty-five 18-year-olds from the Podravina region, including Koprivnica-Križevci, Varaždin, and Virovitica-Podravina counties. The project activities are designed to provide opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities in Podravina to engage in Erasmus+ programme activities and gain invaluable European experiences. The project objectives are: 1. To promote social inclusion and diversity by providing 25 young people with fewer opportunities the chance to travel within the EU and third countries. 2. To develop participants' intercultural skills, fostering mutual understanding and acceptance of cultural differences. 3. To encourage environmental awareness and responsibility among participants by promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices. 4. To empower participants to become active citizens within their communities, encourage them to contribute to local initiatives, and promote cultural exchange and inclusivity. 5. To nurture a sense of European identity and solidarity among participants, motivating them to engage in future Erasmus+ projects and beyond DiscoverEU. From a youth work perspective, the project employs innovative non-formal learning methods tailored to the specific needs of young people from rural areas. This includes a participatory approach to travel planning, the use of digital tools for preparation and reflection, implementation of a mentoring system, organisation of evening reflection sessions during the journey, and the creation of a digital travel portfolio as a tool for recognising acquired competencies.
