The project aims to provide equal opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities to participate in international mobility programs, thereby promoting their personal and social development. Through the DiscoverEU program, participants can experience new cultures, develop intercultural competencies, increase their independence, and strengthen their social inclusion. These goals are closely aligned with the core practices of youth work, which focus on supporting young people's development and enhancing their active citizenship. The primary objective of the project is to offer disadvantaged young people the opportunity to participate in international mobility on an equal footing. For many young people, economic, social, or geographical barriers make it difficult to access such programs. Therefore, through DiscoverEU, they are given the opportunity to boost their self-confidence and independence. The experiences gained during the program help young people integrate socially while acquiring new skills that improve their educational and later employment prospects. Social inclusion is a key element, as youth workers are responsible for helping young people overcome various obstacles and supporting their integration into the community. The international experiences offered by the program provide participants with the chance to embrace the power of diversity and learn how to navigate successfully in different social and cultural environments. During international mobility, young people can engage with different cultures, interact with local communities, and connect with participants from other nationalities. Exploring various cultural settings fosters openness and tolerance in young people, breaking down potential prejudices. These experiences help participants learn to handle cultural differences and acquire the basics of intercultural communication, which will be advantageous in their future, for example, in the workplace. Intercultural learning is particularly important because it is one of the essential skills young people need to develop to participate effectively and openly in a globalized world. Intercultural experiences contribute to the growth of young people’s social sensitivity, helping them better understand other people and communities. A key goal of the project is to develop the independence and personal responsibility of young people. During their travels, participants have the opportunity to make their own decisions, solve problems, and navigate in unfamiliar environments. This is especially important for disadvantaged youth who have limited opportunities to gain similar experiences. International mobility allows them to step out of their comfort zones, become more independent, and learn how to deal with challenges. Developing independence is essential, as young people need to learn how to manage life’s challenges and become self-sufficient. The program helps participants enhance their sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills while giving them the chance to test themselves in new situations. The project also aims to develop young people’s language and communication skills. During international mobility, participants encounter many practical situations where they can use a foreign language, such as in transportation, shopping, or interacting with locals. Practicing language skills builds confidence, which can later benefit them in their studies or in the labor market. The development of language and communication skills is important because these are essential for young people to actively engage in social interactions and successfully communicate within different communities. The language experiences gained during the program help broaden participants' global perspectives and break down communication barriers between different cultures. The project’s objectives include raising awareness of sustainability among young people. During their travels, participants learn how to travel in an environmentally friendly way and apply sustainability principles in their daily lives. The program places particular emphasis on using sustainable transportation, reducing waste, and supporting local, eco-friendly solutions. Sustainability education is becoming increasingly important, as young people need to understand environmental challenges and be able to make responsible decisions for future generations. The experiences gained during the program help young people think more consciously about environmental impacts and the importance of sustainability.
