Objectives

The aim of youth work is to promote young people's active participation in the life of the community, with mentors and youth workers supporting young people in their development. Through our project, we work with one mentor, two youth workers and five young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to provide opportunities for them to learn and develop from each other. Volunteering ensures motivation and enthusiasm, while preparatory meetings contribute to getting to know each other through interactive, playful exercises. The aim of the programme is to give young people the opportunity to experience culture in a foreign city, out of their familiar environment, thus enriching their knowledge. The dry information learned in the classroom becomes experiential and through youth work young people can become more aware citizens. Trust is key to the project, enabling cooperation between young people and youth workers. Through the programme, young people can redefine their goals, increase their knowledge and develop their social skills. Youth work plays an important role in acquiring skills for everyday life, encouraging critical thinking and promoting social inclusion. Our aim is that participants not only gain experiences before, during and after the trip, but also useful skills and knowledge that they can use in later life. By working together, we want to foster critical thinking, a sense of belonging and empowerment, while making the generation now entering adulthood more open and tolerant. Throughout the project, we encourage rational, reflective and analytical thinking, thus discouraging extremism and promoting equal opportunities.
