Objectives

The Empowering Futures project aimed to enhance vocational rehabilitation services for individuals facing mental health challenges by strengthening collaboration among partner organisations. Its objectives were to understand the specific needs of people with mental health challenges seeking work reintegration, share best practices, and improve staff competencies. Through study visits, focus groups, and local events, the project sought to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among stakeholders across the mental health and employment sectors.

Background

The project was initiated to address shared needs among partner organisations seeking to strengthen vocational rehabilitation for adults facing mental health challenges. Across countries, individuals continue to experience significant barriers to employment, including stigma, lack of tailored support, and limited access to structured learning opportunities. Partners recognised that meaningful work is essential for recovery, while unemployment often worsens mental health. At the same time, staff, volunteers, and users need clearer methods, enhanced skills, and better tools to support job reintegration. The consortium therefore applied for this project to exchange best practices, analyse learning needs, and prepare the ground for a future joint educational pathway in vocational rehabilitation. Through transnational cooperation, the organisations aimed to combine their complementary expertise, address existing gaps, and build a sustainable foundation for improving employability and social inclusion for people with mental health challenges.
