Through the implementation of the project, we sought to strengthen digital, green, and entrepreneurial competences within the agricultural sector, with particular focus on micro and small rural enterprises. The primary objective was to design and pilot an innovative and transferable curriculum for the professional profile of the “Green and Digital Farmer,” aligned with European priorities on digitalisation and sustainability. In addition, the project aimed to promote the use of micro-credentials as a flexible and responsive tool for continuous professional development, to foster structured exchange between two European VET systems, and to contribute to the updating of agricultural qualifications in line with the ongoing green and digital transition.
The Small Smart Digital Farms 4.0 project was conceived to address the growing gap between digital innovation and small-scale rural farms. Micro and small enterprises in the agricultural sector are increasingly confronted with challenges related to sustainability, climate change, and market competitiveness. However, they often lack adequate digital competences and access to appropriate technological tools. A clear need emerged for targeted professional upskilling that integrates green and digital competences through short, practice-oriented, and immediately applicable training pathways. The project therefore aimed to support the green and digital transition of small farms by developing concrete training tools and strengthening European cooperation among VET organisations with complementary expertise.
