The objective of the "Discovering Europe, Discovering Integration" project is to engage young people with fewer opportunities, offering them the chance to travel and access experiences with DiscoverEU that would otherwise be beyond their reach. This opportunity aims to foster personal development, with significant effects on enhancing their skills and abilities. The project involves the participation of young people in two travel activities that will take place between March 2025 and October 2026. The traveling groups will consist of five participants. The two activities are scheduled in sequence, spaced six months apart to allow for effective planning with a gradual approach. The first trip involves young people with a fair level of autonomy, followed by subsequent activities involving more vulnerable boys and girls. The next trip will include two young people in wheelchairs, with increased efforts to book travel and accommodations accessible to people with disabilities. A short period of travel helps these young people develop confidence, self-esteem, and basic skills useful for making future decisions regarding education and careers. It is essential to offer young people in the community an educational experience outside of the school environment. For many of these young people, Europe is a distant place and out of their reach. This experience becomes an opportunity for growth through the acquisition of new skills, such as the ability to move independently, an understanding of European values, and experience with foreign languages. Moreover, the goal is to introduce them to organizations that promote volunteering and active participation. After the travel experience, they will be encouraged to undertake a period of volunteering with an association, and to participate in other exchange projects or the European Solidarity Corps. Thanks to the new knowledge and awareness they will gain, supported by our guidance, they will better understand their abilities and have greater clarity in choosing the educational or professional path to pursue.
