Objectives

This project was born from the belief that, in the face of contemporary conflicts, it was not enough to talk about peace in an abstract way; it was necessary to help young people understand its value through concrete experiences. For this reason, we chose to use the journey as an educational tool, connecting participants to European places marked by wars, divisions, and subsequent paths to reconciliation. The goal was not only to introduce new countries, but also to offer young people an opportunity to interpret the present through history, understand the consequences of hatred, and reflect on the importance of coexistence, dialogue, and solidarity. From a youth work perspective, Solidarity Route had four main objectives. The first was to promote peace education, helping participants directly understand the effects of conflict, intolerance, and divisions. The second was to foster inclusion, creating real opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds to meet and countering stereotypes and prejudices through the experience of travel and cultural exchange. The third was to support the personal growth of participants, especially those with fewer opportunities, by strengthening their autonomy, adaptability, communication, open-mindedness, and self-confidence. The fourth was to strengthen their sense of European citizenship and responsibility toward others, encouraging more active, informed, and supportive participation in society. In short, through this experience, we wanted to transform a mobility experience into a genuine, accessible, and meaningful educational journey. The trip was conceived not as a simple journey, but as a space for learning, discussion, and growth, capable of helping young people better understand Europe, appreciate its diversity, and feel part of a broader community.
