Objectives

The aim was to co-develop a digital youth participation platform that truly reflects the needs, language and realities of young people in Liechtenstein. Instead of traditional top-down formats, the project followed a bottom-up approach: youth were involved as equal co-creators. The platform should offer meaningful interaction, visibility of youth voices, and a rewarding, gamified engagement experience. Beyond technical goals, the project aimed to foster self-efficacy among youth: to experience how societal processes work, how participation is built, and how their input leads to real outcomes. Through deep collaboration with international design students, they gained exposure to English-language teamwork, entrepreneurship, and UI/UX logic. They learned to translate broad civic needs into a local, feasible solution. Another key objective was to initiate long-term anchoring of the platform in Liechtenstein’s educational and social structures through strategic partnerships, creating a foundation for sustainable participation infrastructure.

Background

In Liechtenstein, opportunities for meaningful youth participation are limited, often formal and adult-centred. Young people lacked a digital space where they could actively contribute, be visible, and engage on their own terms. Existing structures did not offer low-threshold or rewarding ways to participate. There was also no user-friendly tool that connected youth perspectives with decision-makers or institutions. The project addressed this structural gap by aiming to build a youth participation platform that reflects the needs, digital habits and values of young people. Erasmus+ provided the ideal framework: it enabled us to explore European best practices, collaborate with international experts, and co-develop a working prototype that could later be embedded nationally. Moreover, national funding in Liechtenstein is rarely available for early-stage ideas. Erasmus+ made it possible to develop a credible, tested solution that can now serve as the basis for long-term partnerships and implementation.
