The project aimed to foster European unity, personal growth, and regional engagement by bringing the principles of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) to Éislek 2024, a northern region of Luxembourg. This initiative sought to provide young participants with a platform to engage in meaningful discussions, explore European values, and experience the unique cultural and geographical identity of the region. At its core, the project was rooted in promoting the values of the European Union—democracy, inclusivity, solidarity, and human rights. By engaging participants with political, social, cultural, and economic topics, we aimed to deepen their understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Europe today. Discussions and activities encouraged participants to think critically, exchange diverse perspectives, and explore creative solutions to pressing issues. As is the case with every EYP event, education played a central role in the event, blending formal and informal learning approaches. Structured debates provided a space for participants to articulate their views, collaborate, and practice constructive dialogue, while informal interactions fostered personal connections and holistic learning. Through these experiences, we aimed to equip participants with essential skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork, empowering them to grow both personally and intellectually. A key objective of the project was to create opportunities for intercultural exchange. By bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds, we encouraged the sharing of ideas, traditions, and perspectives, fostering mutual respect and understanding. These interactions not only built bridges between cultures but also helped participants form lasting connections and friendships. Hosting the event in Éislek was a deliberate choice to shine a spotlight on a region often overlooked in favor of Luxembourg’s larger cities. This marked the first large-scale EYP event in the north, offering participants the chance to explore the area’s rich cultural and natural heritage. The project also aimed to bring politics closer to communities in the region, making political discourse more accessible and relevant to local residents. Sustainability was a guiding principle throughout the project. From reducing waste to sourcing materials locally, we prioritized eco-friendly practices to minimize our environmental footprint. Additionally, by collaborating with local businesses, we sought to support the region’s economy and showcase the importance of sustainable development. Ultimately, this project aimed to inspire a sense of unity and empowerment among participants, demonstrating that collaboration and shared purpose can drive meaningful change. By combining the ideals of the European Youth Parliament with the unique context of Éislek, we created an event that not only enriched participants’ lives but also highlighted the value of inclusion, sustainability, and cultural exploration in shaping a stronger, more connected Europe.
