Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to strengthen inclusion, emotional well-being, and bullying prevention in partner schools in Latvia, Greece, and Spain. One of the main objectives was to develop a joint Anti-Bullying and Inclusion Strategy as a practical and sustainable tool created collaboratively by teachers and students from all partner schools. We also aimed to create an “Inclusive Methods Toolbox” with practical inclusive teaching methods that educators can continue using after the project. Another important goal was to improve teachers’ professional competences by sharing practical approaches for supporting students with diverse social, emotional, and learning needs. Through workshops and exchange of experience, teachers gained new ideas and methods for creating more inclusive classrooms. The project also aimed to empower students as active participants through debate activities, awareness campaigns, poster creation, and international mobilities, strengthening their communication, intercultural, and cooperation skills.

Background

The project was developed in response to the growing need to strengthen inclusion, well-being, and bullying prevention in schools. In Latvia, Greece, and Spain, schools continue to face challenges related to bullying, discrimination, social exclusion, and cyberbullying, which negatively affect students’ well-being and sense of belonging. Particular attention was given to vulnerable groups, including students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, young people living in rural areas with limited support opportunities, children whose parents work abroad for long periods, and students with learning or emotional difficulties. These students are more likely to experience social isolation and unequal participation in school life. Although participating schools had already implemented initiatives related to inclusion and bullying prevention — including the KiVa programme at Smiltenes vidusskola — partners recognised the need for new international perspectives and practical methods. The increasing impact of social media and emotional challenges among young people highlighted the importance of stronger cooperation, preventive measures, and active student involvement in creating safer and more inclusive school environments.
