Objectives

The GENERATION+ project was developed with the aim of empowering young people across Europe to actively promote LGBTQ+ rights, social inclusion, and democratic participation. The project responded to the increasing need for creating safer, more inclusive, and participatory spaces where young people, particularly those from LGBTQ+ communities and those facing social, economic, or geographical barriers, could express their views, strengthen their capacities, and engage in meaningful dialogue with decision-makers. The core objective of the project was to encourage and increase youth participation in policy development and civic life by equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become active advocates for equality, diversity, and human rights. Through a combination of non-formal learning methodologies, interactive workshops, youth debates, mobility activities, and community-building events, GENERATION+ sought to provide practical opportunities for young people to engage with important issues related to gender equality, discrimination, and participatory inclusion. A key objective was to strengthen participants’ understanding of LGBTQ+ rights and the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Europe today, including social exclusion, discrimination, stigma, and barriers to equal participation. Increasing awareness and knowledge, the project aimed to empower young people to challenge stereotypes, combat prejudice, and promote inclusive attitudes within their local communities. Another important objective was to build the advocacy and leadership capacities of young people. The project focused on developing essential competences such as communication, critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, and policy literacy, enabling participants to better understand how political and policy-making processes work at local, national, and European levels. This knowledge allowed them to identify ways in which they could contribute to shaping policies and decisions affecting their communities and the wider LGBTQ+ population. Furthermore, GENERATION+ aimed to create direct channels of communication between young people and policymakers, strengthening the link between youth voices and institutional decision-making. Through structured dialogues, policy labs, and collaborative discussions, participants had the opportunity to formulate recommendations and express their concerns, ideas, and priorities in relation to LGBTQ+ rights and inclusive policies. The project also sought to strengthen cooperation among partner organisations from Malta, Greece, and Romania, promoting the exchange of good practices and innovative approaches in youth work, advocacy, and inclusion. Through transnational collaboration, the consortium aimed to build stronger networks, enhance the quality of youth participation activities, and ensure the sustainability of the project results beyond its lifetime. Aligned with the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027 and the European Youth Goals, particularly Goal #2 “Gender Equality for All” and Goal #9 “Space and Participation for All,” GENERATION+ aimed to contribute to a more inclusive, equal, and democratic Europe. Ultimately, the project sought to inspire and support a new generation of young leaders who are committed to defending human rights, promoting equality, and driving positive social change in their communities and beyond.
