Room with a View (RWAV) is a repeatable, artist-led methodology that strengthens citizenship education through co-creation, reflection and artistic practice. Students (aged 14–23) explore what citizenship means to them personally and translate this into artistic outcomes (e.g., audio, video, text, installation or performance). RWAV support vocational schools by integrating Citizenship, Digital Literacy and Arts & Culture in one coherent, artist-led learning trajectory. Rather than treating these learning areas as separate subjects, RWAV connects them through co-creation, reflection and artistic practice. We want to achieve: 1. A new innovative approach, involving creativity, critical thinking and cooperation, to involve students in experiencing their own European citizenship, build to fit in to the curriculum of VET instutions. 2. A trained group of artists and teachers that can take on the follow up editions of this methodology in the coming years, under the guidance of the cultural partners. 3. A strong partnership between the partners from Italy and the Netherlands, as a start of a growing European network.
"Room with a View"aims to engage VET teachers, artists and talented VET students from Utrecht and Bologna, in a new methodology for learning about active European citizenship. Through utilizing creative techniques, e.g. digital, analogue, 3d and sound-scaping for the creation of artistic visualizations, students can reflect on their perspectives on themes related to, under the mentorship of experienced artists and their teachers. With Interdisciplinary co-creation of a shared methodology we organize workshops and Young-Artist-in-Residences (Y-AiR) for students to work in teams, guided by artists, creating their own Room with a View. Ending with local exhibitions, open to the community at large. * Room with a View ties in with the need for innovative approaches to learning about citizenship in VET. Both schools and the cultural organizations need to develop new strategies and methodologies to cater to the needs of the students. * Learning about European citizenship, part of their VET program, prepares students for active participation in society and to function well within their chosen profession. This includes skills, attitudes and knowledge described by four dimensions: political-legal, economic, civic-social, vital citizenship.
