Objectives

TeamUp was a youth exchange designed by young people, for young people. The idea was to create a dynamic and adventurous summer experience while also encouraging a positive shift in how young people experience cooperation, belonging, and peer-to-peer learning. The whole project stemmed from conversations and ideas shared by some participants in our local activities. Many of them expressed that they were missing spaces in which they could connect with others in person. Through our local activities, we noticed that many of them spent a lot of time glued to their screens, felt shy about connecting with others, and struggled whenever we invited them to solve or create something together. They often said that they wanted to spend more time outside and do things with other people, but they didn't know how to make this happen - so they decided to do nothing instead. With our support, they developed the idea for this project, and after it was approved, they brought together all kinds of activities and work forms to experience what it is like to work with others and create something meaningful together. What we would like to emphasize is that this project was built around experience and participation. Instead of only talking about teamwork, inclusion, and community building, the participants had the opportunity to live these concepts in practice. Through challenges, games, reflection activities, and shared responsibilities, they experienced what it means to work together, support one another, and learn from others. One of our strongest results was that our participants started to see themselves as valuable members of a group. Many of them arrived with doubts about their abilities, their place within a team, or their capacity to contribute. Throughout the project, they discovered that everyone has something to offer and that learning does not only come from experts, but also from the people around. This increased their self-confidence, strengthened their communication skills, and encouraged them to take a more active role in different areas of their lives. Learning with like-minded people was an important part of the experience. Our participants met young people from different countries, cultures, and realities, yet many of them faced similar challenges. Through cooperation and shared experiences, they realized that they were not alone in their struggles and that belonging is something that can be created together. The project became a supportive learning community in which our participants encouraged one another, exchanged experiences, and discovered the power of peer learning. Another important result was the understanding that cooperation is not only about achieving a task or a common goal. The participants experienced that teamwork is also about communication, trust, inclusion, active listening, and shared responsibility. Through different activities, they explored how groups function, how conflicts can be addressed, and how diversity can become a strength rather than a challenge. The skills and experiences gained during the project had a positive impact not only on the participants themselves but also on their organizations and local communities. To sum up, our objectives were: - to bring together 42 young people from our partners' networks, 80% of whom were NEETs who were not studying or working; - to bring young people together while creating inclusive learning communities; - to explore the method of peer education; - to improve the quality of our participants' lives by increasing their self-confidence, self-awareness, and sense of belonging; - to promote self-organized learning communities and their benefits; - to inspire young people to take initiative and create similar meaningful learning experiences. Our results and impact: - increased awareness of teamwork skills: our participants became more aware of their strengths, qualities, and roles within a group, while learning how to contribute to a shared process in a meaningful way; - stronger communication and interpersonal skills: through cooperation activities, discussions, and reflection groups, our participants practiced active listening, giving and receiving feedback, expressing their ideas, and understanding different perspectives; - increased self-confidence: many participants reported feeling more confident in social situations and more aware of the value that they bring to a team and their community; - a stronger sense of belonging: the project created a space in which young people felt accepted, respected, and included, regardless of their background or personal situation; - promotion of peer-to-peer learning: our participants experienced firsthand how much learning can happen by sharing experiences, supporting one another, and creating activities together; - development of problem-solving and leadership skills: many activities challenged our participants to work together, take initiative, make decisions, and adapt to changes.
