ABOUT OUR PROJECT Sustainability and sustainable development are becoming more important topics in the lives of young people, now and for the future. But many young people feel sustainability is too big of a subject and they don’t really know how to act upon it. That’s why we invited 20 young people from 4 different countries to take part in our U Change Youth Exchange and the online We Grow Together community where they can learn from and with each other and work together in action with youngsters from different countries. In the program of this Youth Exchange we focused on discovering what you can do yourself to make less impact on climate change (reduce your ecological footprint) by taking daily action. And to gain new insights and experience examples of how you can also and, maybe even more importantly, make a positive impact on your own environment (the people around you, your community, the local ecosystem) to contribute to social and sustainable change. OBJECTIVES OF OUR PROJECT In the program of our U Change Youth Exchange we aimed to: - Create more awareness and responsibility of the impact of our individual choices and behavior in terms of sustainability and caring for the environment and at the same acquire the knowledge and skills to implement this in our daily life. - Stimulate a more positive and hands-on mindset towards contributing to sustainable development within our communities by undertaking actions in our daily lives and/or in our own environment, individually and together. - Experience the lifestyle and daily practices at an eco-farm project to deepen our understanding, appreciation and respect for nature, our basic needs and (natural) resources and the countryside and learn about good examples and hopeful movements like permaculture, holistic management and regeneration and green initiatives and/or enterprises. - Form a long term partnership between our organizations to offer new exchange opportunities to youngsters from our regions, increasing our ability to work together on sustainable development within our communities and expanding our network. - Connect participants and partners in the We Grow Together Community so that after the project we can continue working on sustainable development as active citizens with like-minded young people and partners to make a positive impact. By the U Change Youth Exchange participants discovered that our choices and actions do matter and we can change our mindset about making impact from negative to positive and bringing it into action together.
