Objectives

What did we wanted to achieve: Through the Nature’s Legacy educational project Olde Vechte wanted to give a grassroot level response of how youth work can respond to the climate crisis. We have observed and confirmed through research that young adults have a presenting issue called “eco-anxiety”. This is linked with having so many issues rising up - in the news, in institutions, in local areas - that are related to weather changes, floods, lack of nutritious food, lack of biodiversity. These can be overwhelming for the younger generation and can cause lack of hope and distress not knowing what to do. Therefore, this project sets out to give hands-on and concrete tools, ideas and experience to young people with the purpose to spend time in nature, with nature, to get to know it - essentially creating a dialogue with nature. We worked in Natura2000 areas - not only during the youth exchange, but also all partners worked in locations near Natura2000. We achieved to have: 1 online preparatory visit (PV), 1 youth exchange (YE) and 1 follow-up phase. The objectives of the project were: O1: To give young people the tools, experience, ideas for young people for be in nature, with nature, work with it - to create an action-based “dialogue” between themselves and nature. O2: To increase knowledge about natura2000 (incl. Nature, wildlife, farming, protected areas, protected species, cultural heritage, land heritage). O3: Engage local communities (of all partners) while developing participant’s sense of taking initative, especially when it comes to nature awareness and nature protection. O4: To deliver quality learning in such a way that participants can focus on their personal development and professional growth O5: To engage and empower young people to become active citizens. O6: To spread the results of the projects by means of photos, videos, testimonials, social media posts, through this increasing the visibility of E+ programmes
