Objectives

The project aimed to transform active ageing by empowering seniors (55+) to become active digital creators rather than passive technology consumers. Our core objectives were: 1. Social Inclusion & Agency: We aimed to address digital loneliness and ageist stereotypes by providing a storytelling platform. Empowering seniors to share their life stories through podcasting fostered a sense of community belonging and social agency. 2. Digital Competence & Literacy: We addressed the digital divide by providing structured training in podcast creation, editing, and online sharing. Our goal was to build essential digital skills and confidence for independent participation in modern society. 3. Innovative Local Learning: By using community centers as hubs, we promoted accessible local learning. This approach ensured that high-quality adult education was informal and integrated into participants' daily lives. 4. Sustainable Community Engagement: Beyond training, we aimed to establish a Digital Legacy through a permanent podcasting platform. This ensures ongoing interaction between seniors and the community, sustaining social bonds and promoting a positive perception of ageing after the project concludes.

Background

The "Voices of Wisdom" (VOW) project was launched to bridge the widening digital gap and combat social isolation among seniors (55+). Our needs analysis showed that as digital transformation accelerates, seniors are often left behind, resulting in "digital loneliness" and the loss of invaluable oral histories. Key Needs Addressed: 1. Digital Literacy through Creativity: We found that traditional ICT training often intimidates seniors. To address this, we used a "creative hook"—podcasting—to teach complex digital skills like recording, editing, and storytelling in a non-formal, empowering environment. 2. Social Inclusion & Mental Well-being: After the pandemic, the need for community belonging is critical. VOW gave seniors a platform to reclaim their social agency and shift from passive technology consumers to active digital creators. 3. Intergenerational Dialogue: We addressed the lack of structured intergenerational exchange. By creating digital content together, we facilitated the transfer of "wisdom" to youth and technology skills to elders
