Background

The City of Trollhättan has for several years been a leading municipality in Sweden when it comes to promoting and adressing the issue of biodiversity conservation. This is perhaps best illustrated by the many steering documents and political objectives on biodiversity that the Trollhättan City Council have approved since 2021. During the initial phase, much of the City's work was focused on reaching out to schools, property owners and citizens and provide them with support and inspiration on how they could convert their lawns or adapt their properties in ways that stimulate local biodiversity. However, in recent years, it has become clear to the City that more focus needs to be put on also engaging and reaching out to local businesses, as the private sector has a lot of potential (and will) to contribute to this issue, but is often lacking the proper knowledge. At the same time, via the SERN network, we heard about the different initiatives and projects that were being implemented in the Parma region by the municipality and large companies in the area. Since both sides shared a need for transnational cooperation and an exchange of experiences on biodiversity measures, we decided to formulate a joint project together.
