The aim of the project was to improve conditions for inclusive education of students with visual impairments in a mainstream school environment and at the same time to increase the preparedness of the teaching staff to work with such students. The project focused on developing the practical competences of teachers, who needed to gain confidence in adapting teaching methods, content, and forms of instruction to make them accessible to all students. An important objective was to create and test specific teaching materials and aids, especially tactile models and digital resources, which would support better understanding of the curriculum. The project also aimed to introduce modern technologies, such as 3D modelling and printing, into teaching and to link them with inclusive principles. Another goal was to strengthen international cooperation, exchange experiences with a partner school, and involve experts from practice. At the same time, we aimed to develop a practical guide and methodological recommendations capturing the approaches used in the project, serving as a resource for other schools facing similar situations. The project thus aimed to create a sustainable model of inclusive education applicable in a broader context.
The project was developed as a response to a specific situation at the school, which faced the challenge of integrating a student with visual impairment into the mainstream educational process. The teaching staff aimed to provide high-quality and inclusive education; however, they lacked experience, methodological support, and appropriate teaching materials. Teachers encountered uncertainty about how to adapt content and teaching methods to make them accessible to all students, while there was no unified guideline or systemic support to guide them through this process. Another identified need was to improve the material and technical equipment and to introduce modern technologies into teaching. At that time, the school had limited experience in creating tactile teaching aids and in using 3D printing or digital tools, which could significantly support access to learning content. The project also addressed the need for professional development of teachers and the exchange of experience with experts and international partners. Therefore, the aim of the project was not only to manage a specific integration case, but also to develop a functional model of inclusive education that would be sustainable long term and applicable to schools.
