The project topics were democracy, democratic principles, human and civil rights, the functioning and institutions of the EU and thus citizenship in the EU. In our project, we delve deeper into these topics and terms and develop the participants' understanding of them and transfer them into everyday activities within their organizations, in their lives and through non-formal education also support the development of their key life competences. The focus of this project was the importance of raising awareness of the principles of democracy, respect and tolerance of different cultures and diversity, as well as the prevention of intolerant behavior towards people of different origins, religions, sexual orientations and others. We shared and compared experiences and best practices from the project's partner organizations and show young people the possibilities for learning and personal development through the use of the principles of non-formal education. We wanted to show young people that democracy, common adherence to principles unites us and creates an opportunity for peaceful coexistence between different people with different religions, genders, political views, nationalities, etc. Thanks to the project, young people could learn more about European diversity and at the same time cooperate on a more united Europe. We defined the objectives of the project as follows: - Provide young people with new ways of learning about democracy and understanding its principles; - Increase competences in the topics of democracy, citizenship, human and civil rights; - Promote solidarity and tolerance between groups of young people; - Promote personal self-reflection; - Promote contact with different cultures; - Enable young people to promote their culture; - Promote tolerance and greater social cohesion; - Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities; - Show that despite the distance between the participating countries, they share the same or very similar values, principles, attitudes, - Breaking down existing prejudices against other cultures and religions (which are often a trigger for intolerance and violent behavior); - Promote dialogue, cultural exchange and mutual respect; - Show the strength of Europe in its principles and values that form its foundation and understand that we are all different and at the same time all equal. We are convinced that with this project we have contributed to improving or suppressing the current situation of spreading cultural intolerance, through personal experience and experiences, i.e. thanks to "learning by doing". One of the challenges of the project that we tried to address through this project was the skeptical attitude of young people in relation to representative democracy and EU institutions, which we managed to change.
