Objectives

The project “Mindful Inner Peace via Nature Connection” (MINC) was developed in response to several challenges affecting young people across Europe and neighbouring countries. Many young people are experiencing increasing levels of stress, anxiety, uncertainty, social isolation and a growing disconnect from nature. At the same time, opportunities for meaningful intercultural exchange, personal development and international learning are not equally accessible to all young people, particularly those facing social, economic or geographical barriers. The main objective of the project was to empower young people from different social, cultural and geographical backgrounds through non-formal education, intercultural dialogue and nature-based learning experiences. By bringing together participants from Austria, Romania, Spain, Italy and Ukraine, the project aimed to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment in which young people could learn from one another, build friendships across borders and develop competences that contribute to their personal well-being, active citizenship and social participation. A particular focus was placed on promoting mental well-being through mindfulness practices and nature connection. The project encouraged participants to reflect on their relationship with themselves, with others and with the natural environment. Through outdoor activities, experiential learning, group reflection, creative methods and mindfulness exercises, participants developed strategies for coping with stress, strengthening resilience and improving their overall well-being. Special importance was given to the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities. The project brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, including young people affected by war and displacement from Ukraine, Roma youth and members of ethnic minorities, participants from rural and economically disadvantaged regions, and young people who would otherwise have limited access to international mobility opportunities. By creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, the project aimed to strengthen self-confidence, resilience, social participation and intercultural competences while fostering a strong sense of belonging, solidarity and mutual respect. Another important objective was to promote intercultural understanding and European values. Through daily cooperation in mixed international groups, participants explored cultural diversity, challenged stereotypes and prejudices, and developed empathy, openness and mutual respect. The project created opportunities for dialogue and meaningful encounters between young people from different countries, cultures and life experiences, thereby contributing to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence. The project also aimed to strengthen active citizenship, participation and personal responsibility. Participants were encouraged to contribute actively to the planning and implementation of activities, express their views, take responsibility within the group and engage in collaborative decision-making. Through this process, they developed important competences such as communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the project sought to increase awareness of social inclusion, diversity and equal opportunities. Participants reflected on issues such as discrimination, exclusion, stereotypes and social inequalities and explored ways of creating more inclusive and respectful communities. The exchange provided a space where diversity was valued as a strength and where every participant could contribute their unique experiences and perspectives. Finally, the project aimed to strengthen cooperation among the partner organisations and contribute to the long-term development of quality youth work. Through the exchange of methods, experiences and good practices, the partner organisations enhanced their capacity to support young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities, and to promote inclusion, well-being, participation and intercultural learning within their local communities. Overall, the project sought to provide meaningful learning experiences that support young people's personal development, mental well-being, social inclusion, intercultural competences and active engagement in society while fostering lasting international friendships, solidarity and mutual understanding.
