The AI-rtistic Innovation project set out to empower young people to critically engage with the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and artistic expression. Our primary objective was to equip participants with relevant knowledge, skills, and creative tools to reflect on and respond to the impact of AI on society. We achieved this by combining non-formal education with interdisciplinary, hands-on learning rooted in both technology and the arts. Throughout the project, we successfully delivered workshops and activities that enhanced participants’ critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy. These skills enabled them to explore complex social, ethical, and cultural questions surrounding AI. Participants used a variety of artistic forms—such as painting, sculpture, and storytelling—to express personal perspectives, experiences, and concerns related to AI in daily life. These creative outputs not only served as a medium for self-expression but also opened up space for reflection and discussion on the broader implications of technological change. The project also fostered meaningful cross-cultural exchange by bringing together young people from Austria, Romania, North Macedonia, Turkey, and Croatia. Collaborative art-making allowed participants to discover commonalities and differences in how AI is perceived and integrated into everyday life across diverse social and cultural contexts. This interaction contributed to stronger intercultural understanding and mutual learning. In addition, we raised awareness about both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. Participants were encouraged to take a stand on issues such as digital rights, data ethics, and social justice through their artworks and personal stories. These outputs were designed to serve as advocacy tools, engaging wider audiences and contributing to broader societal debates. To ensure sustainability and long-term impact, we actively involved participants in dissemination activities and follow-up initiatives. Their contributions culminated in the creation of the AI-rtistic Catalogue, featuring individual and group artworks alongside personal narratives. This catalogue, along with a dedicated blogspot, showcased national and regional visions of AI’s future and ensured continued visibility of the project’s results. Through these efforts, we empowered young people to become creative, informed, and responsible digital citizens and changemakers in their communities.
