In Georgia and Curaçao, drawing and graphic storytelling lack recognition, with little recognition of these practices by the state and society, except for Francis Sling, a world-renowned muralist in Curaçao. In Belgium, despite a rich heritage in comics, young artists struggle to turn this passion into a profession, often with little support from their family circle. Many therefore lack support or recognition, which can hinder their progress and development. The idea is to encourage them to have confidence in their talents and to take full responsibility for their creative choices. By offering them a collaborative and caring working environment, we enable them to explore new techniques, receive constructive feedback and improve their skills, while cultivating their self-confidence. This will enable them to cope better with doubts or criticism, and project themselves more confidently into an artistic career. The project aims to create a framework where young people from different backgrounds can learn together by sharing their knowledge, different practices (clear line, manga, cartoon,...), and perspectives, enabling them to develop their critical thinking and creativity while pushing them to step out of their comfort zones, explore new ideas and build on each other's strengths. The project will also focus on the acquisition of technical skills related to drawing, graphic storytelling and comics, while addressing the challenges posed by technological advances, notably generative AI. Participants will learn to refine their style, build powerful visual narratives, and become familiar with digital tools without losing sight of the importance of their personal creativity. The project will help them to understand how to position themselves in the face of these new technologies, to take advantage of them while protecting the integrity of their work and valuing the human qualities that machines cannot reproduce. This also raises questions about authenticity and emotional expression, fundamental aspects of human art, which cannot be reproduced by algorithms. It is therefore crucial for young designers to be aware of these issues if they are to position themselves to face the evolution of their profession. This project aims to encourage them to value what AIs cannot reproduce: their authenticity, their singularity, and the innovation inherent in the human experience. The project aims to remind us of the importance of the human experience in artistic creation. Technological tools may open up new possibilities, but they do not replace the depth of the creative process, made up of perseverance and progression. This project aims to emphasize that art is a personal process and a journey that is built over time, through mistakes, discoveries and emotions. The project aims to show that drawing and comics are not just hobbies, but can serve as a vehicle for expressing ideas, feelings and reflections on the world. By promoting graphic storytelling, we encourage young people to use this medium to tackle social, political and personal issues, and to see it as a legitimate and recognized form of expression in its own right. Comics are a powerful medium for tackling social issues in an accessible and engaging way. The project will encourage young people to create graphic narratives around social themes that affect them directly, such as inclusion, social justice, ecology or gender equality. It will also analyze the obstacles facing young people, whether financial, cultural or institutional: through their discussions, testimonials and exchanges of ideas, participants will be able to identify ways of improving access to culture and the graphic arts, and raise awareness among local and international authorities of the importance of supporting young talent. The objectives of the project are: - Offer young people a collective learning experience; - Promote graphic design as a means of expression for young people; - Strengthen young people's confidence in their artistic choices and abilities; - Encourage intercultural exchanges and broaden their social network; - Develop their technical skills in drawing and storytelling, while preparing them for the impact of new technologies; - Reflect on young people's access to artistic and cultural practices; - Use comics to raise awareness of social issues; - Provide a space where young people can unleash their creativity, realize their ideas and get involved.
