We wanted to answer the wish of the participants from last year’s project: to meet again and express themselves about different kinds of discrimination – cultural, social and ethnic – while working through artistic workshops. During the previous project, they discovered they had common interests in music, storytelling with drawing, circus, and video games. The team of leaders and the active young people from each country prepared activities to raise awareness about these discriminations, to understand how they work and what consequences they bring. Most of the group also wanted very much to meet each other in their own country and culture, Serbia in this case. Some young participants from Belgium and France, together with their leaders, were also asking questions about the “recent” socio-political events and wanted to understand better the facts and the meaning of this engaged youth movement in the country. By creating intercultural exchange, breaking stereotypes and working together, we wanted to strengthen critical thinking, autonomy and the capacity to become actors of change, promoting an inclusive and respectful environment. The project also aimed to develop their artistic, technical and social skills, while encouraging communication, teamwork and critical thinking, through the creation of visual and digital materials meant to be shared locally and online. By involving the participants in the choice and creation of these awareness tools, we wanted to let them develop their autonomy and give them a voice to express themselves on topics that matter to them, so they could actively contribute to the fight against discrimination in their community. Finally, by spreading the results and the materials created, the learnings and reflections could go beyond the duration of the exchange and of the project itself, through a methodological booklet and digital resources shared with other young people, educators and organisations.
