Objectives

We would like to organize a youth exchange between Belgium and Reunion Island in July 2025. At MCJL Grandeurop, we have been running weekly workshops for several years, mainly artistic, which are very popular with our audience. From this experience was born the common idea of working on artistic practices (painting, music, dance and theater) on a larger scale. Our project aims to give participants the means to develop their critical thinking, to question themselves and to become aware of societal problems. Young people will discover that artistic practices are powerful tools to denounce societal problems and encourage reflection. We also want to explore different forms of communication, beyond spoken language, by offering various artistic workshops where everyone can express themselves freely. The artistic productions will be presented to the public during a cultural event including an exhibition, a concert and a show. In 2023, an exchange with young people from our structure and an association from Reunion Island had a very positive impact. This experience has opened up new perspectives for our audience, and new young people now want to participate in a new exchange with our Reunion Island partners. Our association is located in a social housing estate, where families often live on low incomes. These conditions represent obstacles to the emancipation of young people. Our educational approach aims to remedy this cultural compartmentalization by proposing an exchange between our young people and those from Reunion Island, who live in similar situations. This action will allow young people to share other realities, codes and cultures, while discovering the similarities they share as adolescents. Such an exchange project offers participants the opportunity to take a step back from their realities and broaden their range of possibilities. Our main objective is to bring young people into a process of reflection and sharing. French, the official language shared by both groups, will be used to communicate. We wish to open the dialogue on the official languages and their dialects, thus offering an intercultural sharing experience. This linguistic reflection will allow us to better understand the historical and cultural particularities of each person, while responding to the needs of belonging to a culture and a history. Finally, this project aims to give young people the opportunity to express themselves freely through various artistic mediums, while helping them overcome difficulties related to the French language. Main objectives: - Develop critical thinking, question and raise awareness about French language issues - Tend to minimize cultural decompartmentalization - Move away from different personal situations and broaden the range of possibilities for young participants - Encourage the artistic and creative expression of participants through different disciplines such as dance, music, writing and pictorial art - Create a show around the discrimination experienced around linguistic particularities (patois, neologisms, etc.)
