Objectives

The main objective of the “Ambassadors of Democracy” project is to help young people, especially those with fewer opportunities and disadvantaged backgrounds, acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become active citizens and agents of positive change in society. The project aims to reduce barriers to participation by engaging young people from remote areas, with learning difficulties, health problems and social challenges, and providing them with access to opportunities for inclusion in democratic life. The project created real opportunities for young people to participate in democratic processes at local, national and European level. Through trainings, forums, campaigns and a working visit to Brussels, the participants developed civic, social and leadership competences and became active ambassadors of democratic values. The project is directly linked to the priorities of the EU Youth Dialogue, addressing topics related to active participation, access to information and inclusion of young people in decision-making processes. Through its activities, the project contributes to the implementation of the European Youth Goals, in particular Goals 1, 3, 4 and 9. Specifically, "Ambassadors of Democracy" aims to encourage and facilitate the active participation of young people aged 18–27 from Plovdiv and the region in democratic processes, including through participation in volunteering activities, civic initiatives and the electoral process. Sub-objectives of the project: - to improve young people's awareness of democratic processes and mechanisms of political participation, so that they can more effectively engage in dialogue with institutions and present their views on various topics important to them. - to promote critical thinking and civic engagement, as young people acquire skills to understand and analyze political processes and institutions in the EU and Bulgaria, as well as to form reasoned positions on key issues and defend them. - to support active participation in decision-making processes by providing information on opportunities for civic participation, such as campaigns, volunteering initiatives, elections or consultations within the framework of the EU Youth Dialogue. As a result of the project, a measurable improvement in the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the participants was observed. According to the self-assessments conducted at the beginning and end of the activities, the average level of confidence in participating in democratic processes increased from 2 to 4 on a scale of 1 to 5. Over 70% of the participants stated their intention to continue their civic activity after the end of the project. "Ambassadors of Democracy" also created significant European added value by connecting local youth initiatives with European policies and processes, as well as by direct contact with European institutions during the visit to Brussels. The project also integrates the horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme. In particular, it promotes inclusion through the active involvement of young people with fewer opportunities, uses digital tools for communication, training and dissemination of results, and applies sustainable practices in the organization of events and campaigns.
