Our project was called ”The Citizens of Tomorrow: Stories for Active Communities” and it was a youth exchange aimed to improve young people’s storytelling capacities, showing them that this a competency that connects many other lifelong skills (such as communication, persuasion or creativity), valued both in professional environments as well as in the civic society we’re all part of. We believe that our project has reached this main aim, along with the 3 specific yet realistic objectives we set at the beginning; 1. We helped the participants acquire knowledge about at least 3 story creation techniques (Rory's Story Cubes, Kurt Vonnegut's technique, A hero’s journey) that actually improved the way they narrate stories. 2. We used storytelling as a tool for fostering a deeper sense of intercultural understanding, empathy and civic involvement in the lives of the young participants 3. Our project assisted the young people in developing at least 3 skills related to practising storytelling: assertive communication, creative thinking and active listening.
